Make sure that the VST Plug-In Custom Folder is set to the same file path where you installed the Plug Ins, C:\Program Files(x86)\VSTPlugins or C:\Program Files\VST Plugins (depending on if you're using 32/64 bit versions).
Make sure 'Use VST Plug-In Custom Folder' is set to On. What I did was I went to Preferences -> Plug-Ins and turned on VST2 Plug-In-Custom Folder then made a plug-ins. I think I might have installed it wrong initially even before looking at the guide, maybe someone can confirm this. It appears that the most likely cause is an 'Amplitube'. When I launch Amplitube 5 from my desktop I can hear what I play but when I launch it from Ableton I get no audio.
